Moss Mountain
This afternoon I drove out to P. Allen Smith’s retreat, Moss Mountain to tape a radio program with him. Before we started taping, I walked out to get a quick look at the garden. Spring has come as early at the retreat as it has everywhere else. Many of the cool season plants are bolting, the bulbs are all finished, and they are beginning to start planting with summer color. The apple trees are blooming and setting fruit, the blueberries were already loaded with blueberries, and the iris were in full bloom next to weigelia. It is a mixed up, early spring, which should mean an early harvest as well. The newest addition to the site is the construction of a $150,000 1600 square foot home which they are building in 150 days. From the outside, it looks pretty good, but they are hard at work filming daily on the inside to finish up. You can see more about it on his website.
We taped three 10 minute segments for his radio show on one of my favorite topics–the Master Gardener program. I am not sure when it will air–I forgot to ask, but we tried to highlight as many of our counties as we could. Allen was highly complementary of our program, and talked about having the Arkansas MG’s out to his place, which I know would be a hit!
