Rain and Birthday Surprise
The rain has been coming down off and on all day but not the torrential rains they predicted–unless that is yet to come. I have had slightly less than an inch so far today, but it seems to be picking up now and all day it was gloomy. Thankfully the storms seem to have bypassed us. I did get a lot done at the office today and wrote columns and got my PowerPoint ready for Saturday, then I took off to prepare for a surprise party for Julie. As you know, our staff has started a book club. Tonight was supposed to be our book club at my house. Not everyone had read the book, but that didn’t matter, since we turned it into a surprise 40th Birthday party for Julie. She turns 40 tomorrow and we head to Ft. Smith, so I invited a few extra folks, and we got her. We had a nice dinner, got to see pictures of Julie as a kid and told stories about her. I had ordered her cake and since she likes black and white versus all my bright colors, I asked them to do a classy cake with just black and white. Instead I sort of got the death cake–it had skull and cross bones and a TON of black icing. I removed the skull and cross bones and added fresh violas to soften it a bit, but the huge amounts of black icing made for some interesting colored teeth and mouths–although it tasted good. You sure wouldn’t want that at your wedding or a public venue! So if you get a chance, wish Julie happy birthday tomorrow and Beth happy birthday on Saturday. If you can, join us in Ft. Smith Friday and Saturday for the Horticulture Industry Show. Hopefully the rain will have stopped by then.
