We were up way before the sun was this morning in Pittsburgh and on our way to the airport.  airport pittsburgh.aug11.1We checked in and hoped for a good traveling day, but we were not overly optimistic, since we only had a 30 minute layover in Chicago, but we figured we could catch a later flight if something happened.  We were a bit delayed getting on the plane in Pittsburgh and once we started taxiing out, the pilot told us we were going to be delayed an extra 40 minutes because of weather in Chicago, so we knew we were missing our connection.  Our flight attendant told us we could turn on our cell phones and suggested we talk to reservations–what a great idea!  I got on the phone and we had a new flight in less than 5 minutes.  We landed at gate 18 and left out of gate 11, so it was a cakewalk.  Such a good flight experience!  Thank you flight attendant Angel and American Airlines!

I made it home and unpacked and visited with the family then went out to see the garden.  I had a lot of vegetables to pick,

and the new beans and okra are coming along nicely. A few beds were dry, so I watered a bit, but the gardens look good with plenty in bloom.  clereodendron aug11.142 P1020387 P1020391

I also got to see the new screen Clay built for me while I was gone. It looks great. Now I can plant around that to help hide the trash cans! screen aug11.

I sat down at the computer and have checked  emails and am trying to label photos.  I am trying to figure out what is messing up with my blog app for the iPad.  Every time I figure out what I am doing the App gets updated and things work differently. It kept crashing as I blogged each night in Pittsburgh and the big blank spots you saw in the daily blogs, were supposed to be pictures that didn’t make it through. Hopefully it will get fixed quickly.  Here is the dog walker that didn’t make it through last night!

Pittsburgh was a great city to visit.  We learned a lot of new technology and garden information, saw great gardens, and reconnected with old friends and made some new ones in our larger horticulture community.  These connections are as important as the information we share and learn.  We had great weather and ate some outstanding meals at local restaurants.  We tried new things, learned new things and saw a new city for Julie and I — Bob had been there before.  It was a very good trip but it is always nice to come home.  heinz catsup bottle. pittsburgh garden tour aug16.068 pittsburgh.2014.14 pittsburgh.2014.27 garden writer trade show day 1.2014.05 gnudi sonoma grill pitt. seviche rest. pittsburgh5 phipps conservatory.2014.001 phipps conservatory.2014.013 randyland.06
