Office work and planning

February 4, 2015

Time spent in the office just melts away. I seem to begin the day and within a blink, the day is gone. We have had quite a bit of Master Gardeners registering for the state MG conference in Saline County. MG Conf 2015 48 people registered the first day, but haven’t heard how many since. We usually get an update every Friday. Don’t forget, registration right now is only for active Master Gardeners and County Agents. There is a lot of excitement.

The France newsletter also generated excitement, and we have sold three of the five rooms, with a few nibbles on the last two. If you are on the fence considering going, you need to let us know. We had a planning meeting yesterday with board members from County 76. mg planning feb.2015 (4) We have set the dates for our statewide Saturday MG training this summer. We begin June 13 and do the next 5 Saturdays (skipping July 4). We set agendas, and divided up tasks. We hope to get participation from many counties in central Arkansas, but if someone wants to drive, they can come from anywhere in the state. The class will meet in Conway this year, and we will have applications ready to pass out at the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show, which is right around the corner–Feb 20-23. They had the walk through this week to set space and get the lay of the land. It is always amazing to see how they transform such a big space into such beautiful gardens. afgs (27) The theme this year is I Dig Arkansas. Have you seen the billboards that are up all over town? After we finalized the plans for training, we moved into planning for fair judging training. Many of our MG programs are responsible for the horticulture division at their local county fair. We want to conduct a standardized training to use to train our volunteers, and then come up with a list of potential judges to share between counties. We are off to a good start, and many counties are interested in helping, so stay tuned. fair judging flowers

mg planning feb.2015 (1) I am so blessed to have such great volunteers who are so eager to help–and what would I do without Julie! mg planning feb.2015 (2)

Tomorrow morning I head to Searcy to speak to the White County Master Gardeners, and don’t forget Friday is Ag Appreciation Day in Imboden, and Sunday I will be at ASU for the Museum Garden Club talk on new plants. Come join us.
