Many of you may have attended gardening workshops, tomato tasting days and heritage gardening events at WRI at UA Winthrop rockefeller institute (10)the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain in the past. They changed their focus a few years ago, but I am delighted to say they are refocusing their interests and gardening is again in the spotlight.

I am pairing up with them to do a Grow your Groceries workshop on Saturday, March 21. The following is their press release. Please share with any folks who are interested in learning more about raised bed vegetable gardening. veg garden april2
The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute is offering a unique opportunity to learn about gardening in Arkansas.
Grow Your Groceries with Janet Carson is a gardening workshop that will take place at the Institute Saturday, March 21, through Sunday, March 22. The workshop is open to participants of all gardening skill levels, but will focus on basic techniques best suited for beginners or those without considerable experience.

Carson, Extension horticulture specialist with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and state coordinator for the Arkansas Master Gardener program, will provide instruction on creating and planting raised-bed gardens.

In the evening, participants will be treated to a culinary demonstration centered around the theme of “garden to table.”

Admission to the workshop will include overnight lodging and breakfast the next morning.

“The Institute is such a great place for this kind of workshop,” Carson said. “I’m looking forward to being back there for what promises to be a great weekend.”

Grow Your Groceries will utilize space at the Institute’s Heritage Farmstead for Carson’s instruction.veg garden clark and henricks071

“Janet is the go-to expert on gardening in Arkansas,” said Dr. Marta Loyd, executive director of the Institute. “She’s a wonderful ambassador for the Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Arkansas System. We are proud to be able to work with her and to offer a program of this quality to the people of Arkansas.”
