Last night the ASU College of Agriculture and Technology honored the Craighead County Master Gardeners with the Distinguished Service Award for their volunteer service to ASU. They help out in many ways at the demonstration gardens out on the farm, to work in the greenhouses. The Chairs of the projects which are directly linked with ASU accepted the plaque on behalf of the Master Gardeners. Congratulations Craighead County!!craighead county mg award.2016 I am just sorry I could not have joined them.

I spent the day in the office after picking up the registration information from the convention center. All the name badges and tickets are printed, so I take everything up to hand over to the registration committee in Carroll County tomorrow. I got columns written for next week and programs ready for Friday and next Tuesday, as I won’t be back in the office until Tuesday and our quarterly County 76 meeting. The highlight of the day was this lovely bouquet of flowers from Julie. gerbera daisy arrangementapr.163 All my favorite colors, and gerber daisies really last a long time so will be brightening up my house for a while.

I have been getting a lot of emails and samples about pest problems in our trees and shrubs. We seem to be getting more crape myrtle scale, but also tea scale on camellias and hollies. crape myrtle scale texarkana sept2014.1camellia japonica scale.15 (6) I also got the first sample with powdery mildew crape myrtle problem and look at this interesting gall on some ornamental (I can’t tell from the picture what it is).gall maybe You need to walk your garden frequently to scout for problems. The sooner you find them, and diagnose them, the sooner you can control them.

This evening I participated in a conference call with the Washington County Master Gardeners who are beginning the planning phase along with the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks to host the MG appreciation day on October 10. They are very excited and enthusiastic and have some great things planned. Mark your calendar so you can plan to attend. More details will follow as we get them.

Tomorrow morning I leave bright and early for Carroll County and Blue Springs. We have our final official meeting tomorrow evening with the committee before the volunteer walk-through next month. We are in the countdown!
