A beautiful day for MG plant sales!

Master Gardener plant sales were taking place all over the state today and it was a beautiful day for one. I know they were happening in Cleburne, Crittenden, Greene, Johnson, Pope, Union and Van Buren counties. I was in Fairfield Bay in Van Buren county and this event has grown exponentially each year. What started out as a small plant sale in a park with a few beds has grown into an event that encompasses the whole county with almost 40 vendors at the plant sale, and Ed Leamon park is a spectacular garden destination. The MGs should be proud. van buren county mg plant sale 16 (12)

They have many separate gardens, from a butterfly garden, to a pristine rose garden, rose may 6.162 a winter garden and herb garden van buren county mg plant sale 16 (13)and a waterfall garden. Fairy houses abound in several of the gardens, and there is a unique mix of shade ginger and jap forest grass.may162and sun plants, and some specimen trees. This pink styrax was amazing. styrax pink chimes.may162 They also had a chimney swift home. chimney swallow home.may16 Supposedly they don’t have as many places to next these days since people cap their chimneys. The new pallet compost demonstration was also a big hit. compost demo.fb.may161

I stopped in at Lucas Farms to get some strawberries on my way home right outside Fairfield Bay. They had a bunch of folks picking fruit, but I bought the pre-picked ones. strawberries may6.161 We had some for dinner and they were wonderful.

I also stopped by the Van Buren County Courthouse on the way home. They did some major renovations two years ago and the landscaping at the MG project looks great. van buren courthouse may161

By the time I made it home, swapped cars, unloaded and did some grocery shopping, the day was done. Other than cooking dinner, I did not do much more than water plants.
