Graduation and a great day of learning

Our class size for the Saturday MG training was right at 30 so we had a manageable size to try some hands-on events.  For our last class period we met at the Avilla Community Garden in Saline county. avilla community garden july16 (3) avilla community garden july16 (4) This is one of the finest examples of a community garden in Arkansas and they really work together.  Our class met and started at 8 a.m. to try to beat the heat, and it was actually quite pleasant in the garden. We split the group in half with half going with me to walk the vegetable and ornamental gardens, while the other half went with Bruce to learn about aquaponics and composting.  avilla community garden july16 (1) avilla community garden july16 (9) avilla community garden july16 (11)aquaponics avilla (1) aquaponics avilla (4) aquaponics avilla (9) compost bins avilla.july16 While some of the gardens had been abandoned with the heat, there were many pristine gardens with a ton of fresh produce still coming on strong. bean arch avilla (1) herbs avilla.july16 sweet potatoes avilla.july16 watermelon avilla.july16

We talked gardening for 2 hours before heading indoors to do the rest of the lessons inside. Bruce and I tagged-teamed the vegetables with a session from Marcella on herbs and the day was finished by Jane and Glenda on the on-line record keeping. sat mg training july16 (4) sat mg training july16 (5) sat mg training july16 (13) sat mg training july16 (15) sat mg training july16 (16)

County 76 were the hosts today and we served everyone a tasty barbecue lunch along with a delightfully decorated cake. sat mg training july16 (3) sat mg training july16 (6) sat mg training july16 (9)

It still amazes me how worried these adults get by the test, and how seriously they take it.  They were a great class, from 8 counties in the state.  I am expecting great things from them. sat mg training july16 (1) sat mg training july16 (17)

After cleaning up and loading up, we headed home. I was home with enough time to play with the dogs and take Petals outside for a bit before heading out to our friends for a wonderful meal and time to connect with friends. Russels july16 (2)

A full day for sure, but a great one.  It is always a pleasure to work with folks who are excited about learning and equally as fun to see friends and have time to kick back.
