Let the games begin! The 26th Annual Arkansas Flower & Garden Show is off and running–although just in the set-up stage.  Yesterday and today were only for garden set-up and there have been yards of mulch coming in, mulch-afgs-17-1 mulch-afgs-17-2 mulch-afgs-17-3along with pallets of rocks, afgs-setup-wed-17-12bricks and then of course, plants!  herbs-afgs-setup-wed-17-13 spring-bulbs-afgs-setup-wed-17-16afgs-setup-wed-17-2 I started the day doing a live TV spot on Channel 7 to promote the show. tv-afgs-1 tv-afgs-2

The 2017 show has something for everyone, from fabulous gardens to garden gadgets and plants galore, to educational seminars and kids events.  It really is an amazing experience to watch a bare concrete floor turn into a fabulous garden in a matter of hours!  afgs-setup-wed-17-1 afgs-setup-wed-17-9 afgs-setup-wed-17-10 afgs-setup-wed-17-11  Attendees on Friday will get to get a glimpse of what we see every year.  Buddy and Chris Olsen and their crew are going to do a small garden competition from start to finish Friday morning as the  show opens until noon.  I think you will be impressed.  Seminars begin Friday morning and run through Saturday in two concurrent sessions.  Shorter How-to’s will run all three days on the show floor.

Julie, Dustan and I along with some help, worked on the UA, Division of Agriculture, Extension display.  We kind of have it down to a science since we have been doing it for a bit.  We have a few components which will arrive tomorrow, but for the most part we are done. afgs-setup-wed-17-7 afgs-setup-wed-17-14 afgs-setup-wed-17-15

We will have specialists on hand all three days to answer gardening questions, diagnose your plant problems, talk honeybees and backyard chickens as well as forestry and food preservation.  FCS agents will have ongoing food demos with samples all three days.  Whatever your gardening interests are, there will be something for everyone Friday from 10-7, Saturday from 10-6 and Sunday 10-4.  To get the full run-down on events go to the website: https://argardenshow.org/

Everyone is in the gardening spirit early this year with the mild weather. It is going to be almost 80 degrees tomorrow!!  but back into the low 30’s Sunday morning.  I love the show and it energizes me every year. I already got a bit of the bug, just buying the plants for the show.  I am ready to garden!  You too can come and be inspired. I hope to see you this weekend.
